Overview

In 1887 Clark University emerged as the first exclusively graduate-level institution in the United States, specialising in disciplines like psychology, biology, physics, and chemistry. It also stood as one of the pioneering research universities on the continent. Despite its relatively small student body, the university is renowned for its exceptional research endeavours. The university now holds 801-850th place in QS World University Rankings 2024.

Alongside its original founding schools, Clark University has progressively expanded its academic offerings. Presently, it provides a range of 32 undergraduate majors, 12 master’s degree programs, 4 dual master’s programs, and 8 PhD programs. Notable disciplines among students include psychology, political science, biology, business management, and economics. Designed to facilitate an enriching learning experience, the university’s small size ensures a strong faculty-to-student ratio. Despite its compact scale, Clark University maintains a cosmopolitan atmosphere, with international students constituting 15% of its student body.

The campus, a collection of historic red brick buildings, spans a city block situated approximately 2 miles away from downtown Worcester and a mere 40 miles from Boston. Worcester, the second-largest city in New England, serves as a hub for healthcare, financial services, biotechnology, and higher education. This dynamic setting positions Clark University students favourably for internships, professional placements, and post-graduation employment opportunities. Distinguished alumni encompass two recipients of the Pulitzer Prize and an Emmy Award. Renowned rocket scientist Robert H. Goddard both studied and taught at the university, while civil rights activist d D’Army Bailey also pursued studies here.
